Commissioner of the Revenue

General Office Clerk

Full Time w/benefits, Salary - $28,600

The Commissioner of the Revenue for Essex County is seeking a full time highly motivated individual to perform responsible clerical and fiscal work for the office.  Duties will include assisting citizens and taxpayers, processing mail, filing property records, answering telephone inquiries, assisting with local programs such as state income tax, use value taxation, tax relief, and other duties as assigned.

Full-Time and Part-Time Communication Officers

Job Title:  Advanced Life Support EMT/Firefighter

Status:  Full time with benefits, Salary – ALS Intermediate $41,184 – ALS Paramedic $44,179

Essex County EMS is seeking a highly motivated professional individual to fill a full time Advanced Life Support (ALS) EMT/Firefighter position. Candidates will perform emergency medical advanced life support services and firefighter duties as required. Applicants must possess a valid Virginia Driver’s license, high school diploma or equivalent, a good driving record, and must be computer literate and have the ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates and the public. Minimum Qualifications: EMT-I, or EMT-P, Firefighter I, Hazardous Materials Awareness Certification, ACLS, PALS, EVOC, PHTLS, CPR and within one year obtain Firefighter II and Hazardous Materials Operations certifications.  This position is subject to a criminal background investigation, drug test and health exam.

Job Title: Custodian               

Positions Available:  Thirteen (13)

Category: Part-Time/Non Exempt (20 hours per week, varying shifts)

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

This position performs semi-skilled work to inspect, clean and maintain public buildings, entrances and under his/her care so as to keep them safe, clean, sanitary, neat in appearance and comfortable for use by occupants and visitors and to prepare rooms and facilities for use. A custodian is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

(The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.  The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.)

  • Performs routine custodial duties and tasks such as vacuuming rugs, dusting and wet mopping floors and cleaning glass, windows and mirrors; empties trash and recycling containers; fills soap and other dispensers; inspects, sanitizes and cleans restrooms daily
  • Performs routine maintenance work such as: observes and reports problems to supervisor of unsafe conditions, missing lights, broken windows or doors, etc.;
  • Plans custodial work so that within reasonable periods on a rotating basis all areas under his/her care receive a thorough cleaning; may perform periodic heavy cleaning as conditions require such as stripping and buffing floors, shampooing carpets, cleaning windows, etc.;
  • Moves furniture, equipment and supplies; sets up and breaks down meeting and function rooms for various activities as requested
  • Secures cleaning supplies, hazardous chemicals and custodial storage areas; secures and/or locks facilities or portions of facilities as appropriate; set alarm systems for security.
  • Ensures that all work is conducted in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed;
  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates;
  • Continues training; keeping current with policies and procedures and work standards;
  • Consistent on-site and on-time attendance is essential for this position based on assigned schedule.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma supplemented by one (1) year of experience with custodial services or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.

Job Title: Animal Care Technician

Category: Part Time (12 to 20 hours mainly weekends)

Pay Grade: 104

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

This position performs responsible work in maintaining a safe and sanitary facility for animals and people in accordance with all statutes, ordinances, and regulations pursuant to the operation of pounds and the sheltering of animals. This position shall be primarily responsible for the lawful, proper, and humane care of animals, and shall assure that all animals’ nutrition, sanitary housing and basic medical needs are met on a daily basis. This position shall assist the public when reclaiming, adopting or admitting animals and is responsible for promoting responsible pet ownership in conversations with customers. The proper performance of duties is essential to preserve the health of animals and to prevent the spread of disease within the shelter. This position receives direction from and reports to the Animal Shelter Manager.

Job Title: School Resource Officer

Status:  Full time, Salary:  $34,000 plus full benefits

The Essex's County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for the full time position of School Resource  Officer for the Essex County High School. This position provides law enforcement and police services to the school, school grounds and areas adjacent to the school.

This position works to prevent juvenile delinquency through close contact and positive relationships with students. Attends and participates in school functions. Works with the guidance counselors and other student support staff to assist students. Obtains juvenile petitions and works with the Department of Social Services.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required along with two years of experience as law enforcement officer.

The work performed requires responding to crisis situations and involves quick decision making regarding people, resources, and property.

Job Title: Court Security Deputy

Status:  Full time, Salary:  To be determined upon employment.

The Essex's County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for the part time position of Court Security Deputy for Essex Court System. This position performs work maintaining an orderly and safe court environment. Court Security personnel are responsible for screening all citizens entering the courthouse, using a metal detector and/or hand held wand. Assisting in the monitoring and transportation of prisoners to and from jails. The work performed requires responding to crisis situations and involves quick decision making regarding people, resources, and property. Must have the ability to collect and disseminate information, to follow written and oral instructions and to work effectively with others.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Must posses a valid driver's license.
