ANNUAL WILLIAM F. REISNER AWARD
The Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck Community Services Board and the Circle of Hope Foundation is accepting nominations for its FIFTH annual William F. Reisner award. Charles R. Walsh, Jr., Executive Director for the Community Services Board stated that the “William F. Reisner award is awarded to an individual who has exemplified Mr. Reisner’s commitment and dedication to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities”. This year marks the fifth year that the award will be presented to someone from the Middle Peninsula Northern Neck area who has exemplified outstanding service and advocacy on behalf of those individuals challenged with mental health, mental retardation or substance use dependencies Past award winners are: Mr. William F. Reisner (2003), Northumberland County; Captain William Lee Savidge (2004), Middlesex County; Dr. Joseph A. Lombard Jr., DDS, (2005), Gloucester County; Laurie Keith (2006), Lancaster County. This years award recipient will represent 2007-2008, since the CSB and the Circle of Hope have moved the presentation to coincide with National Volunteer Week.
The Community Services Board was established February 27, 1974, and is celebrating its 34th anniversary this year. Walsh reported that while the Board has experienced tremendous growth over the 34 year period, its resources can not always adequately meet the needs of its consumers. “It is critically important to the individuals we serve”, said Walsh, “to have individuals like Mr. Reisner to help fill these gaps in resources. Mr. Reisner embodied the true spirit of volunteerism. He gave his time and his resources to making life better for many consumers throughout the ten county CSB service area”, said Walsh.
Information regarding nominations for the William F. Reisner award may be obtained by calling the Community Services Board Administrative office at 804-758-5314. The deadline for nominations is February 15, 2008. The award will be presented at a special luncheon on May 2, 2008.
