ESSEX COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ON

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2020, 6:00 PM

 

 PROPOSED REMOVAL, RELOCATION, CONTEXTUALIZATION, AND/OR COVERING OF THE CONFEDERATE MEMORIAL MONUMENT

 

The Essex County Board of Supervisors will hold a special meeting on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at 6:00 PM to receive comments from the public regarding the proposed removal, relocation, contextualization, and/or covering of the Confederate Memorial Monument located on Prince Street near its intersection with Cross Street in Tappahannock, Virginia.

Due to the public health threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the special meeting will be held virtually

VERBAL PUBLIC COMMENTS:  Each speaker will be limited to three (3) minutes.  Citizens must provide their name and address for the record before addressing the Board.  All comments should be directed to the Board, with questions directed to John Magruder, Chairman of the Board. 

WRITTEN SUBMISSIONS:  Written public comment will be accepted in writing prior to the meeting to be entered into the official minutes of the Essex County Board of Supervisors.  Submissions of written comments must include the citizen’s name, address, and voting district. Please draft your comments at such length so that they may be read into the record in no more than three (3) minutes at a typical oral reading pace.  For comments provided in representation of a group or organization, the time limit is five (5) minutes.  Comments that exceed these time limits will stop when the time limit is reached.

Submissions may be mailed to the attention of April Rounds, Deputy Clerk to the Board of Supervisors, P.O. Box 1079, Tappahannock, VA 22560 and clearly marked, “Public Hearing Submission.”  Those wishing to submit written comments via email may do so by emailing  monument@essex-virginia.org.  Emailed submissions must also include the citizen’s name, address, and voting district.

All written comments (mailed or emailed), MUST BE RECEIVED BY CLOSE OF BUSINESS ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2020, 4:30 PM, in order to be included in the public hearing record.
