Essex County is seeking an individual to perform responsible work as an Animal Control Officer. This work includes, but is not limited to, responding to complaints, enforcing animal control ordinances, statutes, and laws, issuing summons, and ensuring public safety. The incumbent will be required to appear in court in support of summons issued. Duties will also include containing/retrieving sick, injured, stray, feral or unwanted animals and transporting them to the appropriate destination. Certification as an Animal Control Officer is required within 24 months of hire. This position is a member of the Animal Shelter team and performs responsible work in caring for animals housed at the animal shelter, maintaining a safe and sanitary facility for animals and people in accordance with all applicable statutes, ordinances, and regulations, and coordinating the animal adoption process. This position performs work under the direction of the Animal Shelter Manager. This position requires variable work hours on weekends, holidays, and may be on-call several days per week. Experience preferred.
