Essex County is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Deputy Registrar

Status – Full Time (+benefits)

Essex County Voter Registration and Elections is actively recruiting a Chief Deputy Registrar to join the elections team. This position provides professional, administrative, and technical assistance to the Director of Elections and all activities related to the efficient and accurate conduct of election administration and voter registration. Applicants must be registered voters in the Commonwealth of Virginia and possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License. The position requires the ability to perform work within a team, to maintain confidential information, multitask, carry out assigned projects to completion, to be non-partisan, and work additional hours including weekends during election cycles.

Essential functions include performing the duties of the Director of Elections as needed; processing voter registration applications; processing and certifying candidate forms, petitions and campaign finance reports; conducting all phases of absentee voting; training of Officers of Election; preparing materials required for Election Day activity (including packing precinct election supplies and boxes; and assisting with programming and testing of voting equipment and electronic poll books); and communicating with the public, media, government officials, elected officials, candidates, and political party representatives.

The successful candidate will have an associate degree or any combination of education, training and experience providing the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.  Experience in election management and election laws preferred.
