Repairs on Downing Bridge Begin Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024
Route 360 over the Rappahannock River at Tappahannock will be reduced to one lane starting Tuesday, Jan. 9 for several weeks.
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin repair work on the Downing Bridge next week.
- Route 360 over the Rappahannock River in the Tappahannock area will be reduced to one lane starting Tuesday, Jan. 9 for approximately six weeks.
- Travelers can expect lane closures and brief delays on the Downing Bridge between Richmond County and the Town of Tappahannock between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.
- Automated flagging devices will direct one-way, alternating traffic through the work zone.
- Lane closures will not occur on weekends.
- Emergency vehicles will always be permitted to pass.
- Message boards will be posted at both bridge approaches to alert motorists to the potential delays.
- Crews will repair the aluminum railing along the structure and make concrete repairs to the bridge deck as part of a maintenance project.
- Weather permitting, work on the Downing Bridge is anticipated to be complete by March 2024.
